GENERAL SESSIONS

Sherri Ward, DNP, RN, is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Nursing Baccalaureate Program. She is the ExamSoft Administrator for the college since 2014. Prior to accepting her first position as faculty in nursing education, she worked at Arkansas Children's Hospital for 18 years, 5 of those in Nursing Informatics training, testing, building, implementing, and supporting electronic health records projects.

Using the NCLEX Blueprint as a Guide for Testing in a Nursing Baccalaureate Program

Using the NCLEX-RN exam blueprint as a guide for building tests throughout the curriculum would allow for students to be best prepared for this licensure exam. In order for the NCLEX-RN exam blueprint to be mimicked, assigning Client Needs and Bloom's categories is necessary. Longitudinal reports across curriculum that identifies a student's strengths and weaknesses in regards to the NCLEX-RN blueprint would guide the student in their studies for the licensure exam and hopefully lead them to a passing score at first attempt.

ExamSoft Reporting Tools: Benefiting from Student Assessment Data

Exam day has come and gone, but what about everything that comes after? Institutions may have different post-exam day protocols, but one commonality is the review of exam reports. Promoting consistency in your school can help faculty complete the grading process efficiently and also provide students with the valuable feedback they’re seeking. We’ll discuss the variety of reports offered by ExamSoft, how to best utilize them and its practical applications.

Aimee L. Badeaux, PhD, CRNA is the Program Director of the Nurse Anesthesia Program at Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University. Dr. Badeaux’s areas of research interest are broad and include visual cognition in the expert vs. novice anesthesia provider, assessment and evaluation in nurse anesthesia education and the effects of anesthesia on the developing brain.

Dr. Badeaux has been an ExamSoft client since 2014, when the nurse anesthesia program adopted computer based testing via ExamSoft. In 2015 the program began using the rubric feature to assess outcome attainment. Dr. Badeaux uses ExamSoft products and their capabilities to make data driven curricular changes and to help guide student learning. Examsoft products have revolutionized Dr. Badeaux’s own assessment processes as well as the program’s overall approach to testing psychometric analysis.

Exam Item Development and Analysis in Graduate Nursing Education

This presentation provides the learner with a foundation for exam item development, analysis and exam assessment creation in graduate nursing by presenting the Item Development and Analysis process used by Franciscan University's Nurse Anesthesia Program. Exam items are used to measure the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities in nurse anesthesia and thus item creation and analysis are essential in preparing the nurse anesthesia student for entry into practice. ExamSoft is critical to successful exam assessment, ensuring a consistent and systematic approach to item creation and assessment.
